Your host

Crystal Hegedis

Earlier this year, I spent time in the beautiful Otways with a dear friend and little did I know then that I’d be hosting a weekend retreat here to close out the year. Words can’t fully capture the peace and tranquility of this magical place, you’ll simply have to experience it for yourself.

As a performer, I’ve always had a deep connection to my body and movement, expressing myself through music and dance from a very young age. Life on the road is exciting but hectic, and I find myself craving balance, the yin to the yang. Yin yoga was the practice I didn’t know I needed until it found me. Yin yoga deepened my awareness of my body, calmed my mind, and became the peaceful, grounding practice I longed for. I knew I wanted to share this blissful experience with others.

I’m passionate about creating a welcoming and safe space where people can prioritise themselves, reconnect with their inner magic, and truly come home to who they are. In a fast-paced world, I believe in the power of pausing, taking moments to listen to your heart, slow down, and rediscover joy in the simple things: nature, breath, and movement. I hope to make yoga and movement accessible for everyone, inviting all to explore and reconnect with their bodies in a way that feels right for them. I also gently encourage women to step fully into themselves and to nurture genuine connection and community.

My movement journey began at age three with dance, a love that has grown and evolved over the years through various styles, as well as yoga, Pilates, and barre. Now, I teach yoga (both Yin and Vinyasa), Pilates (mat and reformer), barre, and dance. I love seeing the joy movement brings and creating safe spaces for people to explore and rediscover their bodies in new and empowering ways. My teaching is about more than just what happens on the mat, it’s about inviting self-love, kindness, connection, and self-care that flows into every part of life.

Hosting retreats is a true passion of mine, and I’m beyond excited to share this magical experience at King Parrot Cottages with you.

“…It’s rare to find someone who can create such a welcoming and heartwarming atmosphere. Crystal’s retreat was a nourishing experience for the body, mind, and soul, and I left feeling more centred and peaceful than I have in a long time. Thank you, Crystal, for a truly enchanting day. I can’t wait for the next retreat.”

Accomodation

Tucked into the lush hinterland of the Otways, each cottage is thoughtfully nestled among the trees, whispering stories of the land they were built from. Crafted by hand using timber and sourced directly from the property, every cottage carries the warmth of its origins, blending rustic charm with natural elegance.

Each private space is a haven of comfort, complete with its own shared kitchen, bathroom, and living area, as well as a crackling wood fire heater for cool evenings. Step outside to your own secluded nook, perfect for morning tea with the birds or quiet reflection under the stars.

While every cottage offers peace and privacy, the heart of the retreat is the main lodge, a warm, open space where we gather to connect, move our bodies, share food or simply unwind by the fire with meaningful conversation. It’s here that the spirit of community is gently kindled, making your stay not just restful, but deeply enriching.

    Will there be free time?

Yes, most definitely. There is plenty of spacious time to slow down, rest, and integrate the practices we explore together. Whether it's wandering through the bush, sitting by the fire, journaling, or simply doing nothing at all. This retreat is designed to support your natural rhythm.

Every activity is completely optional. This is your retreat, and you’re invited to participate in the way that feels most nourishing for you.

I’m feeling a little nervous, is that normal?

Yes, completely. Whether it’s your first retreat or you’re just not sure what to expect, nerves are natural. This is a gentle, inclusive space where you can show up exactly as you are. You don’t need to have done yoga or meditation before — just come with an open heart.

    • Is there reception or Wi-Fi?

Phone reception is limited, but there’s Wi-Fi in most cottages. As part of the experience, this is a chance to unplug, slow down, and reconnect with yourself and nature.

    • Q: Is alcohol permitted during the retreat?

    • While this retreat isn’t strictly alcohol-free, we ask that any alcohol be enjoyed mindfully and in moderation. To help maintain a peaceful space for everyone, we simply ask that any drinking take place quietly in your own cottage, rather than in shared areas.

There won’t be alcohol served as part of the retreat, and you're invited to enjoy the weekend in whatever way feels most nourishing and respectful for yourself and the group.
